Statewide Self-Advocacy Resource Unit

Funding submissions are invited from community organisations for the establishment and provision of a Statewide Self-Advocacy Resource Unit. Submission specifications are available to download. Closing date for submissions is 4pm Friday 11 April 2008. Late, incomplete, emailed or facsimiled submissions will not be accepted.

Disability Act 2006 – Policy and Guideline Reviews

Disability Services Division has made a commitment that all policies and guidelines developed to support the Disability Act would be reviewed within 18 months of the commencement of the Act on 1 July 2007. The first two guides are now under review and are available from the Office of the Senior Practitioner webpage:

  • Restrictive Interventions Implementation Guide
  • Supervised Treatment Order Implementation Guide.

Any comments on these implementation guides will be considered in their revision. Comments should be made by 28 March 2008 to disability.legislation@dhs.vic.gov.au or call 1300 366 731.


Launch of the revised Community Visitors Protocol (Disability)

The revised Community Visitors Protocol (Disability) was launched in November 2007 and outlines the roles and responsibilities of Community Visitors and residential support staff.

We fund and provide a range of supports and services for people in Victoria with intellectual, physical, sensory and dual disabilities, neurological impairments and acquired brain injury.

The Senior Practitioner is responsible for ensuring that the rights of people who are subject to restrictive interventions and compulsory treatment are protected, and that appropriate standards in relation to restrictive interventions and compulsory treatment are complied with. The Senior Practitioner has extensive powers to set standards and guidelines, and monitor disability service providers in relation to the use of restrictive interventions and compulsory treatment.
